SUMMARY:Integrating Hepatitis C Care with Safer Supply Practice
DESCRIPTION:For World Hepatitis Day\, this session will share information on how safer supply providers can integrate hepatitis C care into their practice. This will include an overview of hepatitis C testing\, treatment and prevention\, examples of how other safer supply programs are providing hepatitis C care\, and linkage to hepatitis C trainings and resources. \nHepatitis C testing and treatment is highly effective\, and easier than ever for both clients and providers. Safer supply providers have close\, trusted relationships with clients and are well-suited to deliver low-barrier hepatitis C care. This can support a wholistic approach for the health of people who use drugs\, and support the goal of eliminating hepatitis C in Canada.

They will share their own journeys toward recognizing and accepting their queer identities\, including the challenges they encountered and what helped them on their individual paths.

SUMMARY:Risk & Violence: Offering a New Paradigm for Public Safety
DESCRIPTION:The country witnessed an explosion in protest movements following the police killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in 2020\, along with growing calls to defund law enforcement and prisons. Just two years later\, a Pew Research poll shows that Americans rank violent crime the third most concerning problem facing the country. Both the poll and protests reflect persistent concerns about the criminal legal system and how the government pursues public safety. Professor Hill will offer a new lens for analyzing risk and violence\, which emphasizes the dynamic relationship between race and carceral policies. This lens can ultimately aid stakeholders in their efforts to empower marginalized communities and to rectify the harm attending contemporary criminal policies.
